The beautiful gold,silver vessels

The Major sin - using gold or silver vessels
Nowadays hardly any arabic household goods stores are free of vessels made of gold and silver, or plated with these metals. The same applies to homes of rich people and many hotels.

This kind of thing has become one of the precious gifts that people give one another on special occasions in arabian world. Some people may not have these things at home ( which r very rarely ), but they use them in other peoples homes  when invited to a meal.
I love all of those stuffs, but recently i have found something which got my attention and might be  interested to some of u.
R they allowed in Islam , we should first ask ourselves before using it .

Well, all of these vessels which r made by gold or silver r forbidden in Islam.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) issued a stern warning about using such vessels. Umm Salamah reported that he said: "The one who eats or drinks from a vessel of gold or silver is putting fire from Hell into his stomach."
(Reported by Muslim, 3/1634).
This ruling applies to every kind of vessel or utensil that is made of gold or silver, such as plates, forks, spoons, knives, trays on which food is offered to guests, boxes of sweets which are given to wedding guests, and so on.
Some people might say, "We are not using them, we are just putting them on display in a glass case."
This is not permitted either, to prevent any possibility of these things being used.
(Shaykh Abd al-Azeez ibn Baaz)

Book by Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid

In conclusion : we can use any other kind of vessels except the ones made by gold or silver !
One of our arabian proverb says : " IS IT BETTER TO LIVE RICH THAN TO DIE RICH " ;)

However, decorated Qur'an covers and things that beautify the Qur'an are ok. :)

(We went over this in fiqh. If there's enough gold on it to be melted away in fire, you have to do that.)

Asalam Alaykum, your so very right. I see this ALL over Saudi and every home is filled with these things not to mention families are in debt with credit cards trying to be something they are not astagfurAllah. May Allah help us see what is really important in this life.

What will a purse or shoes do for us in the end of time?

as-salaam aleikum wa rahmatullah,

great post sister!!It is amazing that so many use it when the ruling is so clear.

I have discussed this issue with my in-laws in the past because I have seen dishes/cups etc.. with gold foil/plating on them and wanted them to know it is not ok to use.

I didnt know that thing. But I knew in general Silver is good when keeping water, it purifies and beautifies its crystal structure. You can read more things in the internet.
